Aquaphor vs Elizabeth Arden

Aquaphor vs Elizabeth Arden

I have very dry skin and often have chapped lips and typically need an intense moisturizer daily. I always have on hand Aquaphor Healing Ointment. I love this stuff. I always apply this to dry areas on my face before applying makeup and before going to bed. I also rub it on my lips day and night.

I have recently come across a lot of rave reviews for the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream. After hearing everyone go on and on about how wonderful this is, I knew I had to purchase and try it out.

Aquaphor $5.79- $17.49

Dermatologist recommended as a treatment for dry, chapped and irritated skin. It helps to protect and heal the skin, it's free of fragrances, dyes, and preservatives making it perfect for sensitive skin. The ointment comes in a variety of sizes from a 0.35oz on the go size that I prefer for my night stand and makeup bag to a 14oz jar.
Found at: CVS, Target, Wal Mart, Etc.

Elizabeth Arden $19.50
This skin protectant was created to calm, nourish, and hydrate the skin for up to 8 hours. This legendary cream loved by makeup artist and beauty editors is also used for unruley eyebrows and to smooth cuticles. The cream comes in only a 1.7oz size and is also fragrant free.

Personal Comparison:

Analyzing each ointment I have come up with a few differences that stand out to me. Obviously there is a price difference. The Aquaphor is definitely a less expensive option and also provides a selection of sizes to choose from. Only offering a 1.7oz at $19.50 has Elizabeth losing to Aquaphor for me on affordability and selection.

They both claim to be fragrance free. I love this about the Aquaphor, it has absolutely no fragrance, which makes it nice to wear all day long. For me the Elizabeth Arden has a "medicated" smell if you will. Not a scent per say but definitely a strong distinct smell. I prefer absolutely no smell, so Aquaphor again is appealing for being "really" fragrant free.

Elizabeth Arden takes a point for offering not only petrolatum, which is the main ingredient in both products, but adding Vitamin E as a protectant and moisture sealant, as well as salicylic acid which promotes gently exfoliation for dry flakey skin. The extra additives makes it a nice night repair cream.

Both products have a gel like consistency however Aquaphor is clear and the 8 hour is an apricot color.

After trying Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream for some time now, I am convinced even though it is a nice cream that seems to do the job ok, I personally prefer Aquaphor. The price is right on mark, there are no smells, and this ointment nourishes and heals my dry skin like a dream.

Have you tried either products? If so, I would love to hear from you, so please share your opinions.

  1. Thank you for this review! I was debating on whether or not I should splurge and get the Elizabeth Arden one but am glad to see that the Aquaphor is quite comparable.
Also, your blog is absolutely lovely!
